What Is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy refers to one-on-one mental health treatment that is personalized to suit an individual’s unique needs. It involves setting therapeutic goals, processing one’s past, and learning how to manage one’s symptoms or triggers to live a healthier life.
Individual therapy is almost always conducted with one client and one provider in a one-on-one setting, but it can include another person on occasion—only when it is relevant to an individual’s treatment plan and goals.

There is no set type of therapy used in individual therapy. Instead, the type of therapy used will be tailored to the needs and symptoms of the client. There are five main categories of individual psychotherapy approaches:

PsychoanalysisÂ
Psychoanalysis is a treatment based on the theory that our past shapes our present. We are often unaware of how experiences can affect us. Cognitive therapy
Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that may help you to change unhelpful or unhealthy ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. CBT uses practical self-help strategies. These are designed to improve your quality of life immediately. CBT can be an effective way to treat depression and anxiety.
Behavioural therapy
Behavioral therapy is an umbrella term for types of therapy that treat mental health disorders. It's based on the idea that all behaviors are learned and can be changed. This form of therapy looks to identify and help change potentially self-destructive or unhealthy behaviors.
Humanistic therapy
Humanistic therapy describes various types of treatment that focus on a person as an individual with unique potential and abilities. Instead of concentrating on what is wrong with people, this therapy focuses on helping them overcome their difficulties through personal growth.
Integrative or holistic therapy
Integrative therapy is an individualized, holistic approach to therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic schools of thought depending on the unique needs of a given client
